The Bali Beach Dress was inspired by a trip to Bali. Before travelling, I wanted to knit a light and comfortable dress in 100% linen – the perfect fibre for a warm and humid climate. Linen is breathable, cool against the skin, and dries quickly, making it ideal for sunny days by the sea.
The pattern is based on my popular Firenze Top, reimagined as a relaxed and versatile dress. Wear it as a beach cover-up over your swimsuit, or style it with a slip dress underneath for a casual summer day, a festival, a holiday, or a warm evening out.
The dress is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, allowing you to try it on as you work and easily adjust the length and fit to suit your body.
The pattern includes instructions for both a classic round neckline and a V-neck.

Bali Beach Dress
The finished measurements may appear small at first, but remember that the fabric is very stretchy and has plenty of ease. If you prefer a roomier fit, simply cast on additional stitches—every extra 14 stitches add approximately 10 cm (4 inches) to the circumference.
You can also cast on the stitch count for a larger size and decrease gradually until you reach your preferred bust measurement. I recommend trying the dress on regularly while knitting to create the perfect fit for you.
Size: M – L
Bust circumference: approx. 90–100 cm (easily adjusted by number of decreases)
Hem circumference: approx. 107–130 cm
Full length: approx. 95–100 cm
Yarn: 8–10 balls of Langyarns CREALINO
(100% linen. 50g = [yardage not specified])
Needles: 6 mm circular needle (60 or 80 cm)
Tension: Approx. 14 sts = 10 cm in stocking stitch using double strands on 6 mm needles. Adjust needle size to get correct tension.
Tip: Wind all mini skeins gently into round balls before starting to knit.
Colour sequence used for the sample
From the hem upwards:
- 1 ball each of colours 0028 + 0029
- 1 ball each of colours 0125 + 0029
- 1 ball each of colours 0125 + 0028
- 2 strands of colour 0125
The dress is just as beautiful worked in a single colour or in your own favourite colour combinations.
