Firenze Top – Summer Tank Knitting Pattern (ENG)

The Firenze Top is a timeless knitted summer tank top with a flattering fit that has become one of my best-selling designs.

Many knitters have made not just one, but several Firenze Tops in different colours because it is such a comfortable and versatile garment to wear.

The idea came to me after buying a simple tank top at Madrid Airport. I loved the shape so much that I decided to recreate it as a knitting pattern—and Firenze Top was born.

It features a gentle A-line silhouette that drapes beautifully without feeling oversized. The softly curved front and back hems add an elegant touch, while the high armholes make it comfortable to wear with a bra. The shoulder straps are easy to customise, allowing you to knit them as narrow or as wide as you prefer.

The top is worked seamlessly from the bottom up and is easy to try on as you knit, making it simple to achieve your preferred fit.

Firenze Top is truly a design for all ages. My own mother, now in her eighties, has several of them in her wardrobe, and it remains one of the garments I wear the most myself.

The pattern was designed for Lang Yarns Baby Cotton, a wonderfully soft organic cotton available in a beautiful range of solid and multicoloured shades found in yarnshops all over the world.

Hold two colours together to create your own unique marled effect, or combine Baby Cotton with Schachenmayr Tahiti.

If you prefer linen, the top is equally beautiful knitted in Lang Yarns Crealino, creating a lighter and airier fabric that is perfect for warm summer days.

You may also substitute another yarn with a similar gauge. The most important thing is to match the gauge to achieve the intended fit.
