Cashmere Rib Beanie is one of my most popular hat patterns. Its classic ribbed design creates a comfortable, close-fitting beanie that looks just as beautiful for everyday wear as it does on a cold winter walk.

The original version is knitted in 100% cashmere held together with one strand of Langyarns Mohair Luxe. This combination creates a wonderfully soft halo, beautiful colour depth and an exceptionally luxurious feel. The finished hat is lightweight, warm and incredibly comfortable to wear – completely itch-free.

One of the best things about this pattern is how easy it is to personalise.

Langyarns Mohair Luxe is available in a stunning colour palette, allowing you to create anything from subtle tone-on-tone combinations to bold contrasts.

You can also substitute the Mohair Luxe with one ball of Langyarns Lace. Thanks to its higher silk content and the same beautiful range of colours, Langyarns Lace creates an equally elegant result with a slightly different character.

The pattern also works beautifully with several other yarns. Knit it in Langyarns Merino 120 for a classic merino beanie or choose Langyarns Zen held double for a soft, luxurious hat with its own unique look.

Any yarn that matches the recommended gauge.

Please note: If you knit the hat in a single strand of Langyarns Merino 120 on 3 mm needles, the gauge will be tighter.
Simply knit one size larger than your intended size.

Needles

3.5 mm (US 4) 40 cm circular needle

3.5 mm (US 4) double-pointed needles or Magic Loop for the crown

or the needle size needed to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge: 23 stitches = 10 cm (4″) in ribbing using 3.5 mm needles.

Mia’s Tip

Cashmere is an exceptional natural fibre that becomes even softer with wear. Because both cashmere and ribbing naturally relax after washing and use, it’s perfectly fine if your gauge is slightly tighter than stated. This will help your beanie keep its shape and provide the perfect fit for years to come.
